To understand where you are going, it is always helpful to understand where you’ve been. The same thing is true of a student of management and leadership in the 21st century. To understand management in the 21st century, it is helpful to cultivate an understanding of management in the 20th century. And, there is no one better to learn from than Peter Drucker, known as the “Father of Modern Management.” In fact, in my opinion, any serious student of management and leadership in the corporate world, simply must be a student of Drucker. One way is to read his 39 books on the subject. Another, is to read this book by Elizabeth Haas Edersheim. Her work reflects his wisdom in a very practical fashion that is designed to leverage yesterday’s learnings for tomorrow’s leaders. A must read.
