This book is another that is aligned with our leadership philosophy at ConantLeadership. High Commitment refers to winning in the workplace; High Performance refers to winning in the marketplace. Beer and his co-authors argue — if you want to deliver value in an enduring way, you have to succeed in the workplace first so that you can have a sustainable proposition in the marketplace. Beer understands that leaders are at risk in today’s world if they don’t have an engaged organization that is highly committed to the goals of the enterprise. I especially like that Beer’s work is system-driven; he acknowledges that if you want to replicate performance over time you’ve got to take a systems approach. Accordingly, he provides a manageable system for addressing and resolving issues in a continuous improvement fashion. Lots of actionable insights here.
